Former Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy has claimed the Hoops squad resisted his radical style of play because he wasn't Martin O'Neill. The confession has sparked a furious response from Hotline callers, with one branding the ex-boss out of his depth.
Hotline caller hits back at Nancy
Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, wrote in: "I had to smile when I read Wilfried Nancy say the players never accepted him after working under Martin O’Neill. Let’s put things in perspective here, the job was simply too big for him and it was akin to moving from Poundland to Harrods. The simple fact is the man was totally out of his depth and made Russell Martin look like Pep Guardiola."
Rangers injury woes criticised
Rangers have suffered another injury blow with Cammy Devlin out for six weeks with a hamstring problem. Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, believes the number of absentees at Ibrox shows players aren't as tough as previous generations.
He stated: "It's just incredible the number of injuries that keep piling up at ibrox with Devlin now out for six weeks. I remember that golden era when Rangers were winning every week and played the same eleven virtually all season without injury. They had tough, hard men who were a different breed compared to the powder puffs of today's game."
Robertson and Scotland under fire
Premiership football returns this afternoon after a three-week international break, but Scotland captain Andy Robertson continues to face criticism after his comments following the poor start under new national team boss Sebastian Pocognoli.
Peter Cooperwhite said: "So Andy Robertson says fans got their wish for revolution and that change will take time. Two home defeats isn't the best start of a revolution. Never mind a fan revolution, what it needs is change of players. Gannon-Doak got a 6 against Slovenia and the rest including captain Robertson got a five, which says a lot about the dross we have. Who is Luis Bunks?"
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, added: "The Scotland national football team have a Messi but not the Lionel legend of Argentina I only have two words to describe them: 'rank rotten'. Sebastien (Pocognoli) has not got a clue and if Laurel And Hardy were playing they would be saying what another fine 'Messi you have got us into' as the only path he is taking the team down is to the garden. The Hampden hierarchy need to take the blame and remove Sebastien before it ends in a pure Messi."
Ian Renton concluded: "I gave up on Scotland decades ago. I am in my eighties and while I have watched other countries come on the scene and begin to get known by their steady improvement, I have never witnessed that in Scotland. We are no further on from the days of Ally Macleod in the 70’s, when we actually had a good team, but unfortunately they believed all the hype and we know what happened after that. I had not watched Scotland play for many years but watched a game with my son, and dear oh dear, we are now going backwards. We are finally one of the minnows that everyone wants to be drawn against. It will be a long time before I am tempted to watch them again. Can I still watch paint drying?"
