New Rangers boss Derek McInnes has finally broken his silence on his departure from Hearts, admitting that "frustration is justifiable" from the club's supporters. The former Hearts manager had not spoken publicly since his side lost the Scottish Premiership title on the final day of the season, when two late goals from Celtic denied them the championship.
McInnes Opens Up About Title Heartbreak
In an open letter to Hearts fans, McInnes explained his silence, stating he was "angry and devastated" by how the season ended. He said: "I was so angry and devastated at how it all played out for us after putting so much effort in. The decisions that had a huge impact on the outcome were hard to take. Trying to process it all was part of my thinking as to why I didn't speak."
Emotional Farewell to Tynecastle
McInnes, who has now taken over at Rangers after Danny Rohl's departure, expressed his gratitude to the Hearts board, staff, and fans. He highlighted the club's record points tally and Champions League qualification as major achievements. "It was an incredible privilege to manage the football club for the last 12 months," he said. "I felt like one of you. The backing you gave me and the team was incredible."
Hearts now face the task of finding a new manager after losing both their captain Lawrence Shankland and McInnes to Rangers. McInnes wished the club well, saying: "I wish I'd got to Hearts sooner and that my time at the club was more than 12 months. It was only a short time, but it was a brilliant time."
