Matt Willis: Emma is 'smashing it' and 'loving' Strictly role

Matt Willis has revealed how his wife Emma is coping with her new role as host of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing, saying she is "smashing it" and "loving it."

The trio of Emma, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe took over presenting duties on the dance show earlier this year, after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stepped down at the end of the 2025 series. It is the first time three people have fronted the programme.

Hosts split duties for first results show

During the first weeks of the 2026 contest, the presenters have split responsibilities, with Emma and Josh staying by the judges' table, while Johannes joined the couples on the balcony before the score reveal. The first results show took place on Sunday, October 4, marking the first elimination of the series and the first time the new hosts faced a results show.

It was also the first time the three took on different roles since taking over. Emma and Johannes chatted with the judges upstairs before the elimination, Josh swapped with Johannes to speak with the safe celebrities, and Emma remained on the dancefloor to announce the results. Viewers welcomed the change.

Matt praises Emma's approach

Promoting his new book on This Morning on Thursday, October 8, Tess Daly asked the Busted star: "She's doing the most amazing job on Strictly. Is she enjoying it? Are you watching it? Do you love it?"

Matt replied: "I have never watched so much Strictly in my life! I'm so in. I've been to a live show, I'm watching every episode... She's smashing it. She's so happy. She loves it!"

Ben Shepherd then asked how Emma is coping with the pressure of the show's "relaunch," given her experience compared to Josh and Johannes. Matt said: "I don't think she pays attention to anything. She's very good at just doing her job, and she puts her head down and does the best she can. She loves working with Josh and JoJo, and they're great, and they're, and they're brilliant, and they're lovely people. They're all in this thing together. It's a new job, it's exciting, and she's loving it!"

Matt declines Strictly appearance

Matt also revealed he has turned down the opportunity to appear on Strictly, having been asked in the past. He said: "Now I have a very valid excuse, I think it'll be a conflict of interest, surely. I don't think I'll be doing it any time soon."
