The Lotto numbers were drawn at 8pm, with the Thunderball numbers announced shortly after. Each line of numbers played enters one draw and is played over two rounds, giving players two chances to win. This provides roughly a one in 4.9 chance of winning a prize in every draw.
Historic jackpots and background
The biggest ever Lotto winner was created in April 2016 when an anonymous player banked £35m. In January 2016, two ticketholders each won £33m. Earlier, a main Lotto game jackpot of £42,008,610 was drawn in January 1996, split between three anonymous winners, each receiving £14,002,870. A single ticket won £26.4m on New Year's Eve in 2016.
The UK National Lottery was first drawn on November 19, 1994. Half of all money spent by players goes to the prize fund, with 28% to good causes, 12% to the UK Government as duty, 5% to retailers, and 5% to the operator.
