Newcastle United supporters have continued to add to the growing collection of flowers, shirts, scarves, and memorabilia at St James' Park in honour of Kevin Keegan, who died on Monday at the age of 75 after a battle with stage four cancer.
Fans Pay Respects
The club asked fans to leave tributes at the South West corner of the stadium, and they have turned out in large numbers. Among those paying respects were current manager Eddie Howe, player Jacob Murphy, and former Magpies Peter Beardsley, Steve Harper, and Shola Ameobi.
Memorial Plans
Discussions continue on how best to memorialise 'King Kev', with a statue outside the stadium, similar to those for Alan Shearer, Sir Bobby Robson, and Jackie Milburn, being a popular suggestion. Renaming a stand after the legend has also been proposed.
Keegan's Legacy
Keegan, who managed the 'entertainers' team of the 1990s, famously finished second in the 1995/1996 season and delivered his impassioned "I will love it if we beat them" interview. He was adored for his exciting, attacking football and made a brief return as manager in 2008.
