Jack P Shepherd has opened up about his full-on days on Coronation Street, which he claims regularly prompt the same concerns from his mother-in-law. The David Platt star has been part of the ITV soap since 2000 and has found himself at the centre of many dramatic storylines over the years.
Speaking about his current run of intense scenes on the programme, Jack admitted he is "sick of talking" by the time he returns home.
Podcast revelation
Speaking to Colson Smith on the podcast they host alongside Ben Price, On The Sofa, he said: "I got home last night actually from work funnily enough because I'm in a bit of a story at the minute.
"And you'll know, when you're in a story, it'll be from half seven until seven. So it's just full on Monday to Friday and it's a lot of scenes," he explained. "And when you go home, there's no rest, you've got to learn tomorrow's [lines]."
"So, I got home and my mother-in-law, she always does the usual, she goes 'You look shattered'."
Mother-in-law's usual remark
"And I'm like, 'Thank you'," he added laughing. "I always say that someone says, 'God you look awful' and you go, 'Thanks, thank you'."
"And she said, 'Oh are you knackered?' and I went, 'I didn't feel like I am but I'm sick of talking', you feel like it's a lot of energy and you have to keep your energy up," he added.
The 38-year-old spoke out after announcing his new acting role away from the soap last month.
Pantomime debut
Jack will make his pantomime debut this Christmas in Wales, starring alongside John Evans and Simon Neehan in Venue Cymru's Sleeping Beauty, which begins on December 12 and runs until January 2, 2027.
"I’m delighted to be joining the cast in Llandudno this festive season and can’t wait to entertain audiences in this year's pantomime," he said in a statement.
Future on the cobbles
Last year, there were fears his time on the cobbles had come to an end when a desperate David was seen plotting his own shocking death, but he thankfully remains on the soap.
Recently opening up about his future, he told Digital Spy: "I still love being at Corrie. The Platts are nominated for Best Family so people still like them, I suppose! They're still at the forefront of the show and they're getting the big stories, like Sarah [Platt played by Tina O'Brien] and Theo [Silverton, played by James Cartwright]."
"If it's not Sarah, it'll be Nick [Tilsley, played by Ben Price], or it'll be me, or Shona [Platt, played by Julia Goulding] or Bethany [Platt, played by Lucy Fallon]. So I think the Platts are in a good place, the show's in a great place so we're very happy."
