Van Der Valk season four concludes tonight, Sunday, August 16, at 8pm on ITV, with the third and final feature-length episode focusing on a scientist's death. The crime series returned earlier this month after a three-year hiatus, airing three episodes on complex murder investigations in Amsterdam.
Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk, played by Marc Warren, faces a "cryptic code" in the finale. While viewers bid farewell to the detective and his team, ITV has confirmed that Daniel Craig's fifth and final James Bond movie, No Time to Die, will air in the same slot next week.
No Time to Die takes over ITV slot
No Time to Die, released in 2021, airs at 8pm on Sunday, August 23, on ITV. The film follows the former secret service agent as he enjoys retirement in Jamaica, but his peace is disturbed when an old CIA friend asks for help, leading him "on the trailer of an enigmatic villain armed with lethal new technology."
The official synopsis adds: "It's a case that turns out to be more personal than ever for the super-spy - and has far-reaching consequences." Alongside Craig, the film stars Rami Malek, Ana De Armas, and Christoph Waltz.
Van Der Valk's future uncertain
There has been no indication yet whether Van Der Valk will return for a fifth season. Warren acknowledged that "these things are out of our control" regarding renewal, but remained hopeful, telling Radio Times: "It's always had good viewing figures, it's always been very well received... and I'd love to do more of it because it's a treat."
He added: "I can't imagine another job like this coming along. So when it's gone, it's gone – and I'm not ready for it to go." Van Der Valk is available to watch on ITV and ITVX.
