Inver crowned best Scottish restaurant by The Times

Inver, a waterfront restaurant in Strathlachlan, Argyll and Bute, has been named the best restaurant in Scotland by The Times. The publication singled out 75 eateries across the country, with Inver topping the list.

The restaurant was described as a "radical redefining of modern Scottish cuisine in a historic crofter's cottage". It is an award-winning venue with rooms along the shores of Loch Fyne, known for its unique character and world-class food.

Led by chef Pam Brunton

Inver is led by chef Pam Brunton and her partner Rob Latimer. The venue specialises in local and foraged ingredients from Loch Fyne's waters and Argyll's woods.

The restaurant offers both an à la carte lunch menu and an evening tasting menu, each providing a unique experience. The lunch menu is suited to those looking for a smaller or more relaxed meal with views over the water, while the evening menu is more formal and showcases the restaurant's creativity.

Menu highlights

The lunch menu includes shellfish and line-caught fish, as well as local farm lamb and beef. Dishes include duck liver parfait and preserved fig, Camquhart Farm lamb with new season garlic and shitake, and turbot with carrot and anise herbs.

The evening tasting menu features six courses by chef Pam Brunton that "reimagine Scottish tradition through foraging, fermentation, and fire". The autumn tasting menu centres around wild Argyll venison and Scottish ceps, with curated drink pairings also available.

Staying overnight

For guests wishing to stay the night, Inver offers eco-bothies and en-suite Shepherd Huts. Visitors receive a picnic basket for breakfast, including homemade pastries, bread, yoghurt, charcuterie preserves, local eggs, and more.

One recent visitor wrote in a Google review: "Inver is a very special restaurant, tucked down the end of a single-track road on the shore of Scotland's largest sea loch, Loch Fyne famous for its seafood. A meal here is an experience, with everything perfectly thought through, from drinks pairing to vinyl playlist."

Another visitor shared: "Absolutely fantastic! Off the beaten path a bit, but don't let that discourage you! This is a must stop by for a Michelin star experience on a curated menu. Excellent staff, fantastic food. Couldn't have been better!"
