Gavin and Stacey star exits Strictly after dance-off

Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters has become the second celebrity contestant to leave the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 64-year-old, best known for playing Gwen in the BBC sitcom, was partnered with professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec. On Saturday's show, the pair scored 17 points for their Charleston to Gina G's Ooh Ahh... Just A Little Bit.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood said he "didn't love" the routine, while Motsi Mabuse urged the Welsh performer to "keep going". Having been in the bottom two for the first two weeks, the couple were sent home.

Dance-off defeat

In Sunday's results show, Walters and Skorjanec faced former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and his partner Alexis Warr in the dance-off. Wright-Phillips and Warr had scored 15 points for their quickstep to I'm A Believer.

After both couples performed again, the judges voted. Mabuse saved Walters, but Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Revel Horwood chose to save Wright-Phillips and Warr.

The eliminated couple will appear on It Takes Two on Monday. Walters is the second exit after hairstylist Chris Appleton and Amy Dowden were eliminated last week.

Leaderboard and career

Delta Goodrem topped Saturday's leaderboard with 33 points, the second week running. Sunday's episode also featured a professional dance showcase and a performance by Jalen Ngonda.

Walters is known for playing Gwen West in Gavin and Stacey since 2007, reprising the role for the 2024 Christmas special. Her other credits include Coronation Street, Beyond Paradise, and Doc Martin.

She scored 15 in week one for her cha cha cha and the same the following week for a waltz. The remaining 13 couples dance next Saturday for icons week.
