Emmerdale wedding disaster leaves village reeling in horror

The week of Dawn and Joe Tate's wedding in Emmerdale ends in tragedy, leaving the village reeling in shock and horror. Dawn had planned to jilt Joe on their wedding day and leave the village forever with her ex, Billy, but the day takes a disastrous turn with consequences that will impact villagers' lives for years to come.

Wedding Disaster Unfolds

On the morning of the wedding, Graham hides worry behind his smile as he promises Joe nothing will go wrong today. Meanwhile, Dawn starts to fret that with Kim back, escape will be impossible. Billy calms her down, and she thanks him for being trustworthy, while Billy hides his guilt. Despite Kim's kindness deepening Dawn's guilt, she forces herself to use her dad's memory to get Kim out of the way in order to escape.

When Graham's careful questioning causes Lucas to let slip about Dawn and Billy's escape plan, he heads to Home Farm to intervene. Outside the Home Farm Stables, Dawn is caught making an incriminating call to Billy as she packs her suitcases into her car. Graham can't believe Dawn's about to break Joe's heart on his wedding day.

With Joe's attempted murder of Billy the prime motive for Dawn jilting Joe, Graham questions how Billy could have seen Joe attack him from behind. The question hangs heavy for Dawn. Soon Graham fails to talk Dawn out of leaving, so he snatches her car keys, and in desperation, she knocks him out with a nearby shovel. As Graham comes to, he's frustrated to find himself thoroughly trussed up and unable to escape.

Caleb's Revenge

Looking forward to Joe's jilting, Caleb beams at a plan coming together successfully. Caleb furtively hands Billy a wad of cash, and Billy's new life can finally start. However, his resentment at being a pawn in Caleb's game is obvious.

In the Woolie, Joe's toast to 'happy endings' leaves Caleb simmering, but Ruby is firm as she tells him to keep his powder dry until the wedding. When Caleb's contempt causes Joe to rescind his invite to the wedding, Caleb decides to detonate his truth bomb prematurely as he tells an unnerved Joe that he's finally evened the scores between them. Caleb is triumphant as he reveals to Joe that Dawn has left with Billy, taking Joe's nascent family and his unborn child where he'll never see them again.

Jimmy's Betrayal

Jimmy is bitterly betrayed to find that Caleb and Ruby were his rivals, not his business partners. Caleb offers him a little sweetener on top of the money they are paying for his half of the haulage to silence him. Ruby is unbothered by the row, but Caleb's guilt is palpable. Finding glum Jimmy questioning his lot in life, Bob does his best to buoy his mate, but he still suspects there's something deeper troubling him.

Elsewhere in the Village

A wave of shock and horror passes through the onlooking crowd to hear of an incident. A flash of resentment seems to be driving Ramsden's investigation, and she maintains a suspicious eye over the crime scene. Emotional and guilty-looking, Gabby watches on from a distance.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
