Emma Willis jokingly told Rylan Clark to “get out of the studio” during her BBC Radio 2 Saturday show, after the Strictly Come Dancing co-presenter revealed he has air conditioning at home.
Emma, 48, was handing over to Rylan, 37, when she asked if he had been enjoying the recent hot sunshine. Rylan, who hosts Rylan on Saturday, said he had, but under different circumstances than he would prefer.
Rylan on the heat
He said: “I want to say yes, because I don’t want to be that Brit that sits there and moans about the sun. But I would prefer to enjoy the sun next to the sea with a drink in hand, not wearing many clothes and not trotting about the UK working and going to places that don’t have air conditioning. That's where I’m at!”
Emma then asked if he had air conditioning in his bedroom, and he confirmed he had installed it in his Essex home. In response, Emma, who also co-hosts Love Is Blind UK, jokingly exclaimed: “Arrghhh. Get out of the studio!”
Air con at home
Rylan went on to explain how transformative the air con had been, to the extent that his mother, Linda, who appears with him on Celebrity Gogglebox, had come to stay with him to escape the heat.
He said: “One of the best things I ever bought was air con – air con in the kitchen, where I mainly sit. I’ve got air con in the bedroom, I’ve got air con in my guest bedroom, which is why my mum has come and stayed for the past two nights. So it is one of the things that I’m glad I’ve got, 100 percent. I can’t sleep in a hot room. I just can’t do it.”
Mother's health
The conversation comes after Rylan explained why he and his mother would continue to appear on Celebrity Gogglebox but not do a show of their own. He told the Daily Star that his mother was not currently well enough to work beyond the show.
He said: “We've been offered hundreds of things. We got asked to do a travel show and the chance to go here and go there. It would be hilarious, but she's just not well enough to do it. Gogglebox is enough for us. She feels comfortable doing that show because we're just sat in my kitchen.”
Rylan has been open about his mother’s health struggles, including her battle with Crohn’s Disease, an incurable condition that, according to the NHS, involves inflammation of the gut.
