Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are reportedly deeply saddened as their divorce settlement negotiations have broken down, forcing the former couple to prepare for a contentious court battle. The once-beloved TV duo, who announced their separation in May 2024 after 27 years together including 14 years of marriage, are now facing off in an estimated £10 million legal dispute at the High Court.
Collapsed Settlement Talks
The former This Morning presenters have already attended hearings in June and February of the previous year. Despite their efforts to reach a financial agreement privately, they have failed to resolve the division of their joint wealth. Both parties have now enlisted top legal representation. A source revealed that Ruth is pursuing a financial remedy through the court system. The case is officially listed as Ruth Holmes versus Eamonn Holmes.
An insider told The Sun: 'A lengthy court battle is the last thing the couple wanted, but they just can’t agree. It’s very sad but they are both prepared to fight for what they feel is rightfully theirs.'
Financial Details
While specific details of the court proceedings remain confidential, it is understood that the trial could involve a personal fortune of around £5 million. Additionally, the couple owns a six-bedroom home in Weybridge, Surrey, which they purchased 12 years ago for £3.6 million and has likely appreciated in value since.
Family Background
Eamonn and Ruth share a son, Jack, aged 23. Eamonn also has three children from his previous marriage: sons Declan, 35, and Niall, 32, and daughter Rebecca, 34. At the time of their split, a joint statement confirmed: 'Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.' Sources indicated that their work commitments led them in different directions, causing them to drift apart, but they initially aimed to remain friends and keep the separation amicable.
Eamonn's Health Struggles
The TV personality has faced significant health challenges in recent months. In April, he was reportedly found slumped unconscious at home and rushed to the hospital, suspected of having suffered a stroke. His son Declan provided an update, stating his father was 'doing ok given the circumstances.' Eamonn later reassured fans on social media, sharing a photo of his granddaughters with a handmade 'get well soon' card, captioned: 'As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well – I will do my best to get well SOOM.'
His girlfriend, Katie Alexander, whom he began dating after his split from Ruth, also posted a supportive message: 'What a week. Prayer, prayer each day.' Eamonn has had ongoing health issues since 2012, when he suffered three slipped discs.
Metro has contacted representatives for Ruth and Eamonn for comment.
