Dr Sam Bunting has launched Flawless Moisturiser Balance, a new moisturiser designed for those with oily, combination and blemish-prone skin — and customers are already calling it a 'game changer'. The cosmetic dermatologist aims to address the common complaint from patients who avoid moisturisers because they feel too heavy or cause breakouts.
According to Dr Sam, one of the most frequent phrases she hears in her clinic is: "I don't really use moisturisers. Everything I've tried either breaks me out or feels too heavy." The new formula is designed to tackle this issue.
Science Behind the Formula
Flawless Moisturiser Balance follows the success of the brand's cult Flawless Moisturiser Intense, which has won 10 beauty awards since launching in 2023. The new version incorporates the same advanced science but reimagines it for oilier, combination, and blemish-prone complexions.
Dr Sam said: "Flawless Moisturiser Balance is the product I've wanted to create for every patient who walked out of clinic without a moisturiser because nothing on the market felt right for their skin. The science behind it is the most advanced we've put into a moisturiser formula. And the texture — finally — does justice to it. I hope it changes things for you the way I know it can."
Key Ingredients and Clinical Results
The star ingredient is 2% Sunflower Sprout Extract (SSE), which bolsters mitochondrial resilience against environmental stress. In trials by Professor Mark Birch-Machin, Professor of Molecular Dermatology at Newcastle University, SSE reduced UV-induced damage to mitochondrial DNA in human skin cells by 34% and maintained cellular energy reserves by 18%. Dr Sam described these as 'statistically significant results'.
The formula also includes antioxidant 3% Silymarin to protect against oxidative stress, 1% Ectoin to calm reactive skin and boost moisture, ceramides to fortify the skin barrier, and Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract to reduce redness. It is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores.
Customer Feedback
Clinical testing on 32 individuals with oily, combination skin over two weeks found that 100% agreed it provided hydration without clogging pores, and 97% reported that stressed and sensitive skin felt calmed after application. Customer reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with an average rating of 4.84 out of five stars.
One reviewer called it 'an absolute game changer', writing: "I've used Dr Sam's moisturizer for about 5 years now and I love it, but I think I love moisturiser balance even more. It feels so hydrating but absorbs straight away. Doesn't feel sticky at all either and moisturises throughout the day."
Another shopper in their 50s said: "This is the best moisturiser I have used for my ageing, problematic skin. It's powerful enough to calm my skin barrier without causing my skin to breakout. Absolutely love it."
Lisa, who described her skin as 'grumpy', wrote: "Love this moisturiser! I'd say my skin can easily be grumpy and therefore break out, this moisturiser my skin loved! It absorbs brilliantly and kept my skin calm. My new favourite."
Comparison with Other Products
For those seeking alternatives, Mantle's The Lite Cream uses similar SSE technology and is currently discounted from £42 to £35. A budget-friendly option is CeraVe Oil Control Moisturising Gel-Cream (£17 at Boots), which contains three essential ceramides, niacinamide, and oil-absorbing technology for a matte finish.
One shopper noted that Flawless Moisturiser Balance does not mix well with tanning drops, but works great as a base for SPF and makeup. The product is available from Dr Sam's website for £36.
