Donna Air has revealed how she stays healthy and fit after sharing a nude sunbathing photo for her 47th birthday. The former Byker Grove actress posed completely naked on a sun lounger in her garden, using strategically placed newspaper to avoid an accidental exposure.
Fans praised her figure, prompting the former model to open up about her fitness routine in an interview with the Daily Mail.
Diet and hydration
Donna admitted she still eats whatever she likes but avoids one type of food where possible. "I've always eaten whatever I want. Food is one of my biggest joys. I get genuinely excited about food − where it's from, how it's prepared and how it's cooked," she said.
"I eat very little processed food and I'm much more about quality than quantity, I like hearty, tasty food that's packed with flavour," she added. "I stay very hydrated, with lots of water and electrolytes, and I love coconut water."
Body appreciation after loss
Donna, who has moved to the US, says her view of her body changed after her father Trevor died of cancer earlier this year. She said: "I feel much more grateful for my body now. Losing my father this year, and seeing him go through palliative care, gave me a completely different appreciation for what it means to have a body that works and can do things."
"You realise how quickly physical and mental health can be lost. It's made me much more determined to enjoy my body and everything it can do while it can still do it."
Workout routine
Her workouts are cardio-heavy, including swimming, cycling and running, plus stretching. She regularly takes hot yoga and spin classes but has "never been good" with weights.
"I'm much more focused now on feeling strong, healthy and capable than on how I look − I want to have the stamina and endurance to enjoy my life for as long as possible," she said.
