Couple win lottery twice in six years and share their secret

A Canadian couple who won the lottery twice in six years have shared what they feel could be the secret to their success. In August of this year, Angelina and Edward Lado won $675,000 (£357,000) from a scratch card they bought for merely $4 (£2.12).

Previous record-breaking win

This would have been an incredible achievement in itself, but back in 2018, they scooped an enormous $2.5m (£1.33m) from a game called Multi Millionaire Scratch 'N Win. This initial triumph was reportedly the largest scratch card prize ever recorded, and it was with this money that Edward hoped to be reunited with a mother he could not remember.

He said at the time, in 2018, that although he had no recollection of her, he hoped the money he'd won could be used to generate a family reunion. Edward was later to discover to his shock that she was in Uganda. He added: "I will go to find her and hopefully bring her here. It's very hard for me to believe that is now possible."

Second win and advice

Fast forward to 2026 and their second stroke of luck. The couple, who moved to Canada from South Sudan 11 years before their victory in 2018, faced a significant decision when their numbers appeared. While Angelina and Edward secured a lump sum, they could alternatively choose $1,000 (£530) weekly for 25 years.

As Edward and Angelina consider their victory, they have given their own advice on how people could be in with a chance of replicating their results. People reported that Edward said: "We play but modestly, especially now, but if you don't play, you don't win. We've purchased bigger tickets and not won anything significant on them and then Set for Life costs just $4 and we did."

Reaction and next steps

Edward also described his reaction upon discovering the couple had triumphed again, saying: "I thought maybe she was bluffing when she told me, I really couldn't believe it... I told her to calm down and when I come home, we will see if it is for real."

When questioned about his plans for the money, Edward revealed they were still "digesting the moment and letting it sink in" before committing to any definite decisions regarding their next steps.
