Jamie Carragher has spoken about his commitment to tackling youth poverty across Liverpool and the North West, saying "we want to do as much as we can for the people of Liverpool".
Roots in Bootle
The former Liverpool FC defender and Sky Sports pundit highlighted his deep roots in Marsh Lane, Bootle, stressing that Scousers who find success should never forget where they came from.
He co-founded the Football for Change charity initiative in 2021 alongside his friends Alex Croft and Dan Hughes to support young people in deprived areas.
Pandemic Inspiration
The initiative was sparked by the pandemic, after Carragher saw local families in his hometown struggling to provide three meals a day without free school meals.
His mum still works at the Brunswick Boys Club (The Brunny) in Bootle, keeping him closely connected to the struggles faced by local working-class families.
£1.5 Million Raised
Since launching five years ago, Football for Change has raised more than £1.5 million to support vital community hubs and keep youth services running.
A major focus of the charity is ensuring local youth clubs have enough funding to stay open throughout the summer school holidays.
Annual Gala
The charity will host its annual fundraising gala on Saturday, November 14 at the M&S Bank Arena, featuring live music from Gabrielle and Tom Grennan alongside a Q&A with Carragher and Gary Neville.
