A performance of Burlesque the Musical was postponed yesterday. Sunderland Empire shared a statement on its social media pages confirming that the Thursday, August 13 performance of the musical was unable to go ahead. It comes after the performance was pushed back from Thursday, August 6 due to "technical requirements".
Show postponed due to technical difficulties
The post on Sunderland Empire's social media pages reads: "Important information. Regarding the performance of Burlesque the Musical on Thursday 13 August at 7:30pm.
"The producers of Burlesque are sorry to announce that, due to technical difficulties, tonight's performance cannot go ahead."
The team behind the show is working hard to resolve the issues and anticipates that Burlesque will open on Friday 14 August. Customers affected by the cancellation will be notified by email about the next steps.
Liverpool Empire performances still scheduled
The musical is a stage version of the 2010 movie featuring Christina Aguilera, Cher and Stanley Tucci saving a burlesque club from closure. The Liverpool Empire performances are scheduled from November 24 to December 5.

Previous postponement and West End delay
The news comes just weeks after the show was set to open in London's Woking Theatre on Saturday, July 25, but tickets were pulled from online ticket retailer ATGTickets on Thursday July 23.
Afterward, the musical took to social media to share an update on the tour. Burlesque said the situation was "out of our hands" and that the opening West End Woking performances rescheduled for November 2027.
The statement read: "To our Burlesque family. Some news, our planned West End run of Burlesque the Musical has been postponed until 2027.
"This is not a cancellation, it's a postponement, until we move into our new home. Stay tuned on that."
