Britney vs Madonna: Biopic Race Heats Up

Pop icons Britney Spears and Madonna are in a race to see whose biopic hits cinemas first. Both believe their films can surpass the box office success of Michael Jackson's biopic Michael.

Britney Takes the Lead

Britney's project has surged ahead following Madonna's reported budget dispute with Universal. Britney sold the rights to her memoir The Woman in Me for £11.2 million, with director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt attached. A script is being written by Liz Meriwether, and Britney expressed excitement: “I’m so excited and I can’t wait to be able to present this next chapter to my fans.”

Madonna's Setback

Madonna's biopic, starring Julia Garner, has stalled due to cost overruns. Madonna admitted: “We’ve had a falling-out, me and Universal, regarding budget.” She added, “I’ve had an extraordinary life. I’ve had a huge life. So I needed a big budget.” A production source noted she is “in limbo,” while Britney's film is “all systems go.”

Friends Despite Competition

Despite the rivalry, the two remain close friends. A friend said: “Despite their fierce competitiveness, they both want to see each other succeed. But only one of them is going to be first.”
