Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) has been left stunned in Emmerdale after discovering the truth about his attack, but Caleb Miligan (William Ash) has another twist in store.
Billy's entanglement with Caleb
Billy got involved in Caleb's counterfeit business, which means he is now essentially owned by Caleb. He also caused controversy by kissing ex Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) weeks before her wedding.
Billy was found on the depot floor with his head bashed in after disturbing Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill), who was trying to stop Steve from doing the depot over. However, Caleb has been having the world believe that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was the attacker.
Caleb's manipulation
William Ash calls Billy 'collateral damage' in Caleb's revenge on Joe. He told Metro: 'I think everybody wants to get their own back, but with Caleb being Caleb, there's always collateral damage with that, and that's Billy.'
'Caleb's pretty selfish and driven. He'll look after himself and Ruby before anyone. They'll always come first. That's why he uses Billy. You feel for Billy, because he ends up being collateral damage.'
Will added that Billy is the 'purest person', which means he doesn't see any of it coming.
The truth revealed
After the attack, Caleb told Billy that Joe had whacked him on the head and caused his brain bleed. Secretly, Caleb's wife Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) was deleting CCTV footage of Kev doing it.
Ruby used the footage to blackmail Kev into stealing a shipment from Jimmy's Haulage, but he was frustrated to discover it was only 3,000 nappies. He then destroyed the laptop with the footage, but later gave himself away at the Sten do by apologising to Billy for putting him in hospital.
Chris Coghill explained: 'Billy says that makes him think he already knows, and Kev apologises to him, and says, "Look, you understand. You've been in prison. These things happen. I'll make it up to you."'
Billy is shocked to learn that Caleb and Ruby knew the truth, and that he actually attacked Kev. Chris said: 'He attacked me, and I was restraining him so he didn't hurt himself. It was self-defence.' He added that Kev thinks he gave Billy 'a little love tap', which led to a brain bleed.
What's next for Billy?
Billy now knows the truth, but he is planning to flee with Dawn, having asked Caleb to prepare fake passports. However, Caleb refuses to hand them over, wanting to do it on Joe's wedding day for ultimate humiliation.
Meanwhile, Kev turns the tables and warns Caleb and Ruby that he will expose their outfit if threatened with prison.
