The Wimbledon Shop is selling a trio of scented candles – gin and tonic, strawberries and cream, and fresh cut grass – for £45. Stocks were running low when the Daily Star visited, with customers queuing to smell them. One visitor said of the gin and tonic candle: “That is genuinely quite nice.”
Queues and Prices
Fans waited up to 20 minutes to enter the shop. An American visitor complained: “These Brits will queue for anything.” The queue for strawberries was even longer, with some waiting “over an hour.” Other items include a £59 official Wimbledon umbrella and a £10.30 pint of strawberries and cream flavoured Stella lager.
Rising Costs
Pimm’s now costs £13.45, up £1.20 since last year. Pairing it with strawberries and cream (£2.85) totals £16.30. Water refill stations are free, but still require queuing. Nearby pubs have taken on extra staff due to the World Cup and Wimbledon coinciding, creating a “festival atmosphere” in Wimbledon Village.
