Susanna Reid has hit back at critics after her latest Ibiza holiday sparked comments about her age and choice of outfits. The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, has been enjoying a sun-soaked break on the Spanish island during her time away from the ITV breakfast show.
Earlier this week, Susanna shared snaps from a trip to O Beach Ibiza, where she celebrated the news that GMB had been nominated for Best Daytime Programme at the National Television Awards. While the snaps prompted a huge number of positive comments from followers, there were some who had nothing better to do than be critical.
Defiant message about growing older
Now, the TV star has appeared to respond to some of the reaction to her holiday as she urged people not to let others dictate what they should wear as they get older. Sharing another collection of pictures from her trip, Susanna wrote on Instagram: "IBIZA! Away from home, this is my favourite place on earth."
"Been coming every year for more than a decade, and just found out it was the destination for mum and dad’s first foreign holiday together back in 1959. The connection must be strong! It is beautiful - the people, the weather, the landscape, the food and of course the clubs."
Susanna then issued a defiant message about growing older, adding: "Don’t let anyone tell you that you are too old, that you shouldn’t wear the swimsuit - or the shorts!!!"
Celebrating GMB's NTA nomination
Susanna caused a stir with pictures of herself partying at the famous O Beach club earlier in her getaway. Wearing a low-cut top and denim shorts, the presenter posed alongside a group of bikini-clad women holding orange signs spelling out "VOTE GMB" as she encouraged her followers to back the programme at this year's NTAs.
She wrote at the time: "VOTE GMB! We are up for Best Daytime Programme at the incredible @officialntas so I celebrated at one of Ibiza’s best daytime clubs @obeachibiza VOTE GMB link in my bio."
While the snaps prompted plenty of discussion, a number of Susanna's followers were delighted to see her enjoying herself. One commented: "Congratulations! Well deserved ! Love seeing you at OB~ I first went to Ibiza at 51- me and my husband loved it so much we went back again later in the year! X" Another user told her: "Looking absolutely stunning Susanna! Vote done."
A third person added: "Well you have my vote susanna, hope your having a fabulous holiday. Obviously missed at breakfast."
Mixed reactions from followers
However, some were less impressed with one follower commenting: "Love to see you in one of those outfits but it's a bit embarrassing to go there at your big age." And someone else moaned: "Was this content pulled from archive footage from 19985? I thought we'd moved beyond using women in swimwear to promote things that have nothing to do with swimwear."
Susanna has been a regular face on Good Morning Britain since the ITV breakfast programme launched in 2014. This year, GMB will battle it out against James Martin's Saturday Morning, Loose Women, Scam Interceptors and This Morning for the Best Daytime Programme prize at the National Television Awards.
