Spider-Man Reunites with MJ in New Brand New Day Trailer

Spider-Man reunites with his ex-girlfriend and teases an unseen villain believed to be his deadliest threat yet in a new trailer for the upcoming film.

Tom Holland Returns as Spider-Man

Tom Holland swings back into action as the teenage superhero and is seen rekindling his previous relationship with MJ, played by his wife Zendaya, in a new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His character, Peter Parker, also meets faces from his past, including Dr. Bruce Banner, The Punisher, and Scorpion, while managing the threat of a mysterious new villain.

Plot Details

The eagerly-awaited film follows the aftermath of the 2021 instalment, which ended with Parker isolated after a spell was cast to make the world forget his real identity to save the universe. The preview, released by Sony Pictures Releasing UK, opens with Spider-Man screaming and falling from the sky during a fight with Scorpion (Michael Mando). Over their brutal confrontation, Spider-Man can be heard saying: “What is happening to me? I’m losing my mind. I am totally out of control, and I’ve got to fix whatever this is right now.”

It then shows Spider-Man as his civilian self watching a video of his ex-girlfriend MJ and his former best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), who have forgotten he existed.

Seeking Help from Bruce Banner

Parker seeks help from Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), known to fans as superhero The Incredible Hulk, and asks the professor about “mutating DNA” as he is seemingly struggling to control himself. He asks: “Could you get rid of the bad aspects, but keep the good?” Banner replies: “How would you decide what parts of nature are good or bad?”

“It appears we’re faced with a threat we can’t control, one we can’t even see,” a voice says amid explosive fight scenes and what appears to be a sonic wave rippling through the city at the hands of a mysterious, cloaked villain. Fans have previously speculated that the unseen figure is Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, whose character’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

Reunions and New Threats

Parker is later seen holding a bouquet of flowers as he attends a party hosted by his old friends MJ and Ned, and stumbles across a wall of newspaper clippings and images of his alter-ego Spider-Man. Ned insists: “I see you’ve stumbled across my board. I’m not one of those weirdos, I swear.” Spider-Man is then surrounded by members of the public intimidating him and asking personal questions, and is later confronted by The Incredible Hulk in a dramatic fight scene.

He reunites with his ex-girlfriend MJ after entering her bedroom through the window, exclaiming: “I’m sorry!” “You’re in danger, you just have to trust me,” he says, and the pair embrace as he swings her across New York City away from an unknown threat.

Additional Cameos and Emotional Moments

The trailer also shows MJ interacting with The Punisher and Spider-Man facing off with samurai-wielding ninja clan The Hand, known to fans from Marvel spin-off series The Defenders. The voice of his aunt May, who died in the most recent Spider-Man film, can be heard throughout the preview, and Parker is seen visiting her grave and saying he misses her.

The trailer concludes with Spider-Man confronted by armed police and stretching before deciding to fight them, joking: “I’m not in high school anymore.”
