Danielle Quinn, a 41-year-old influencer from Glasgow, has died following a battle with a rare form of ovarian cancer. Her partner, Ryan, confirmed the news on social media on Thursday morning, saying she passed away peacefully shortly after midnight.
Diagnosis and treatment journey
Danielle was diagnosed with Stage 3 low-grade serous carcinoma in December 2022. Before her diagnosis, she was fit and healthy but began experiencing severe abdominal pain and bloating that would not go away. Despite multiple visits to her GP, her symptoms were initially diagnosed as IBS and gastroenteritis.
She was later rushed to hospital, where doctors drained six litres of fluid from her abdomen. After a series of tests and scans, she underwent a hysterectomy that was expected to last two hours but turned into a seven-hour operation. Medics removed her womb, cervix, both fallopian tubes, both ovaries, spleen, part of her bowel, part of her diaphragm and omentum after an MRI revealed anomalies around her abdomen.
Cancer returns and end-of-life care
Danielle opted for hormone therapy over chemotherapy and initially did well, but her cancer returned in October 2024. Earlier this week, she entered hospice care after doctors told her there were no more treatments left.
In a video filmed last month, Danielle said: "I fought as hard as I could but it turns out that life just has other plans for me. There are no more treatments left for my cancer and I'm now receiving end of life care."
Family tribute
In a heartbreaking post, Ryan said: "I'm absolutely heartbroken to tell you that my beautiful D went to sleep for the final time at 00:15 this morning. She passed peacefully and as gracefully as ever, surrounded by an abundance of love and in my arms, exactly where I promised her I would be."
He added: "I watched her face things no one should ever have to, yet somehow she still found reasons to smile, laugh and care for those around her. Even in her final days, she remained unapologetically D. I couldn't be prouder of her."
Danielle, a finance manager who had amassed over 67,000 followers across social media, was praised by her family for her "incredible strength". Ryan concluded: "There will never be another quite like my D. I hope that, alongside the tears, we'll remember her with the smiles and laughter she brought into our lives."
