Meghan Markle's guest appearance on MasterChef Australia will air on July 26 at 7pm local time, with contestants tasked to "create a dish fit for a Duchess." The Duchess of Sussex, 44, will judge the meals, bringing her passion for cooking to the popular show.
Details of the Challenge
The challenge features seasonal Australian winter ingredients including Brussels sprouts, macadamia nuts, celeriac, lemons, apples, strawberries, and quince. Meghan will taste the dishes and provide feedback, focusing on the story behind each creation. According to Mediaweek, she became "very frustrated" when co-stars referred to her as "royalty," preferring to focus on the food.
Meghan's Motivation
Meghan explained her decision to join the show: "What attracted me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes." She added, "I'm just really honoured that I was asked to be here with you and to be able to judge some of these meals." The appearance was filmed in April while Prince Harry conducted a separate tour in Australia.
Advice to Contestants
Speaking to the contestants, Meghan encouraged them to incorporate personal stories: "I'd love it if there's a connection that you can find when, as you're cooking something, what is the story behind it?" She also said, "What is something from your family or from a memory − something sentimental that we can also taste as we taste your dish? These are all things that, for me, feel really nostalgic." The episode promises to highlight Meghan's culinary interests and her connection to Australian cuisine.
