Man Gets Petty Revenge on Neighbour Who Reported His Union Jack Flag
Man's Petty Revenge on Neighbour Over Union Jack Flag

A market trader known as Colin has become an internet sensation after taking petty revenge on a neighbour who complained about his Union Jack flag. The 66-year-old, who goes by 'Market man' Colin, was initially compelled to remove the flag following a complaint to the local council. However, instead of backing down, he struck back with a larger display of patriotism.

The Original Complaint

Last year, Colin received a notification from the council after a neighbour lodged a complaint about his Union Jack flag. In a viral TikTok video that amassed over one million likes, Colin expressed his frustration: 'It's what people do these days; they complain about everything.' Rather than acquiescing, he decided to retaliate.

Petty Payback

Colin purchased an enormous Union Jack and raised it on a towering flagpole for all to see. In the video, he stated: 'I took this flag down because someone didn't like it. So I've only brought a bigger one, look.' He jokingly warned: 'So if they complain again, you know what I'm gonna do. I'll get an even bigger one.'

Public Support

The video garnered widespread praise, with comments such as 'Hoist that beautiful flag high. I salute the flag and you, sir' and 'You should be allowed to fly this country's flag, good on you mate.' Another user added: 'I'm going to complain that the flag pole isn't tall enough, you need to get a taller flagpole for the bigger Union Jack flag, so people further away can see it and appreciate it.'

Rules for Flying Flags

With the FIFA 2026 World Cup approaching, many are displaying national flags. However, there are regulations to avoid fines of up to £2,500. Flags fixed to the roof can be any size if maintained safely. The Town and Country Planning Regulations (2007) stipulate that flags elsewhere, such as on a flagpole, cannot exceed two metres. Ignoring a council removal order can lead to penalties.
