Prince William and Princess Kate have remained publicly silent since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK, with a source telling People the couple is avoiding any “knee-jerk reaction”.
Private matter
The lack of comment from the Prince and Princess of Wales is because the situation is a private matter, the source continued.
“They are watching this space. It’s private - they don’t feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly,” the source said.
Deep sense of betrayal
The source added that if a reconciliation is on the cards, it “will be a slow build” as “there is a deep sense of betrayal.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK after six years, but several sources told People last week that William will remain in “no contact” with Harry despite the move.
Strained relations
Tensions between Harry and William have grown in recent years, with the release of Harry's memoir Spare and the broadcast of Harry and Meghan's tell-all interview with Oprah.
A palace insider noted that the couple has remained very private in recent years, so it is not surprising they have yet to speak on the matter. The Princess of Wales underwent cancer treatment in 2024, announcing her battle and that she was in remission in January 2025.
The source said: “They have suffered a lot. They have been dutiful, doing what they do well and keeping the family together. Anything else, from their point of view, isn’t critical.”
Another source added that Meghan and Kate, alongside the brothers, will inevitably cross paths at some point, especially as the King has made his stance on William and Harry's reunion clear.
“There are bound to be moments where their worlds overlap,” the insider said, “and everyone will be watching how those encounters unfold.”
