A significant development is set for Liverpool ONE as plans for a new family play area have been confirmed. The proposed 1,010-square-metre space, named 'The Kingdom of the Liver Bird' after the city's iconic mythical symbol, will be located at Chavasse Park.
Planning Application Submitted
A planning application has been submitted for the project, with work expected to commence in early 2027. The inclusive play area has been designed based on visitor feedback to ensure children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities can play together.
Key Features
- Liver Bird Tower: A prominent tower featuring an integrated tube slide.
- Zipline Launch Tower: A dedicated tower for zipline activities.
- Fishermen's Village: A maritime-inspired play area.
- Trampolines and Climbing Castle: Jumping trampolines and a themed climbing castle.
- School of Fish Climbing Structure: A climbing structure designed to encourage active exploration.
- Sensory Elements: Communication tubes, busy boards, and integrated musical features.
The area will also include various play tunnels and hills to promote active exploration. To tie the project together, Liverpool ONE is launching a storytelling competition with local schools to help shape the park's narrative journey.
Community Engagement
Liverpool ONE's centre director, Brendan Hattam, expressed excitement over the major investment, noting that the project aims to strengthen Liverpool ONE's outdoor family offering. He said the space was designed with local families in mind, celebrating a symbol that sits at the heart of the city's identity.
