Kate Middleton reportedly described Meghan Markle as "friendly" when they first met, but later found her over-friendly with a "touch of California", according to a new book.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to return to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet, within weeks. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to relocate from their base in Montecito, California, by the end of the month. Their children are already said to be enrolled in UK schools, and the couple will live in a non-royal home outside London.
Royal Couples' Strained Relations
Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly determined that Harry and Meghan's return will have no impact on their lives. King Charles and William were both told at the same time about the Sussexes' plans, and William is said to be "adamant" there can be "no way back" for the couple to rejoin the Firm after they stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.
Since leaving the UK, Harry and Meghan have become financially independent and have given several tell-all interviews about their time in the family, including Harry's memoir, Spare, in which he levelled accusations at his relatives. Friends of William and Kate have said that while they "cannot forgive" the Sussexes for their hurtful accusations, they are determined to "look forward to the future".
Kate's Initial Impressions
However, things were different when Meghan first moved to the UK to live with Harry. When Harry introduced his partner to his brother and sister-in-law, Kate is said to have described Meghan as "friendly". But in William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, the Mirror's royal editor, Russell Myers, explains that Kate had another three words for her future sister-in-law.
According to the book, Kate found Meghan somewhat over-friendly with a "touch of California". The Princess of Wales is also said to have been less determined than her husband to stop Harry quitting his royal role, believing his departure was "inevitable". Kate reportedly thought Harry would always want more than a "bit part" role in the royal family, and that she "could do no more to bring the brothers together". In the past, Kate had been seen as the voice of reason as the relationship between Harry and William fell apart.
