Period drama enthusiasts have issued a demand as Channel 5 airs the final episode of The Hardacres. The beloved series, which returned in May, reaches its series two conclusion this week.
Fans Call for Third Series
Channel 5 viewers are already clamouring for a third series, though no official confirmation has been made, reports The Mirror. On social media, one enthusiast questioned the broadcaster: "Loving this drama don't want it to end. Love this show. Hope we don't have to wait as long for series 3?"
A second viewer agreed: "Really hope there's going to be a third series," while another commented: "Excellent series, hope the third comes out soon." "I couldn't wait for next week," remarked a fourth, continuing: "I watched the final episode on the 5 app. Hope there is a third series at some point."
About The Hardacres
The period drama, adapted from C L Skelton's novel series by the producers behind All Creatures Great and Small, charts the fortunes of the Hardacre family. It features Mary Hardacre, portrayed by Claire Cooper, and Sam Hardacre, portrayed by Liam McMahon. The second series welcomed Michele Dotrice as Lady Imelda Hansen, alongside newcomers Niall McNamee as Edward Blackwood and Edward Mitchell as Arthur Lewis.
Set in 1980s Yorkshire, this latest run has chronicled Mary and Sam's dramatic journey from destitution to wealth, proving immensely popular with audiences.
Future of the Series
Channel 5 has not yet confirmed whether a third series will proceed. However, the second series only received the green light from Channel 5 in July 2025, following the debut run in October 2024.
Series Two Finale
The concluding instalment of series two will broadcast on Thursday, 18 June, on Channel 5. It will feature Sam and Mary discovering that Ma has gambled the house on a wager. Ma stays silent while Imelda reveals her plans, exposing a sinister nature and the full scope of her manipulation and genuine sentiments towards the Hardacres. As Imelda attempts to secure her winnings, circumstances take an unforeseen twist.
The Hardacres airs Thursday, June 18 at 9pm on Channel 5.
