Emmerdale star Nicola Wheeler, best known for playing Nicola King, once appeared on Coronation Street, a fact that may surprise many fans. Before joining the Dales in 2001, Wheeler took on the role of Melanie Tindel in the ITV soap back in 1999.
A Bridesmaid in Weatherfield
Melanie Tindel was introduced as a former schoolmate of Maxine Peacock, played by Tracy Shaw. She served as a bridesmaid at Maxine's wedding to Ashley, portrayed by Steven Arnold. Melanie then became involved in a romance with Tom Ferguson, played by Tom Wisdom, which lasted a month before Tom ended the relationship.
Two Decades in the Dales
After her Coronation Street exit, Wheeler joined Emmerdale in 2001. In 2021, she marked her 20th year on the show and admitted she can hardly believe her character is still alive. Speaking previously, she said: "I am lucky to have been in Emmerdale for a long time and I am happy playing a catty cow. I often laugh at what my character is saying, and sometimes I do wonder why she hasn't been murdered by now."
Current Storyline
Recently, Nicola and her on-screen husband Jimmy King, played by Nick Miles, have been going through a rough patch. However, in Friday's episode, Nicola is delighted when Jimmy agrees to a vow renewal. Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
