Carol Vorderman has opened up about her recent health scare after losing consciousness and being rushed to hospital. The 65-year-old former Countdown host revealed on Instagram that she sustained a concussion after tripping over a tree root near her home.
Details of the Incident
In a video message, Vorderman explained that she fell unconscious and was taken by ambulance to hospital. Her son Cam told her that the song 'Final Countdown' played in the ambulance, which she found amusing. After being discharged, she could not sit up and experienced persistent vomiting, leading to a return to the hospital for CT scans.
Ongoing Symptoms and Treatment
Vorderman suffered facial bruising and dizziness, describing it as "walking on a moving ship." She sought help from a concussion clinic that treats professional athletes. Therapist Sophie diagnosed her with BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), a disruption in the inner ear involving dislodged crystals. Treatment included the Epley Technique, where she was quickly laid back to reposition the crystals.
"OMG it felt like I was falling off the edge of the earth!" Vorderman said. She completed three rounds of therapy and reported that 95% of her dizziness has disappeared.
Support from Fans
Supporters sent well-wishes, with comments like "Hope you're doing well now" and "Take care." Vorderman thanked Bristol Royal Infirmary and the clinic for their care.
