Robbie Hall, a theatre-maker and music producer from Bonhill, is set to perform his one-man show, Don’t Know? Have a Go!, at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show will take place at theSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall from August 7 to 15, 2026, at 4.35pm.
From Pipe-Fitter to Performer
Hall left his job as a pipe-fitter/welder in 2019 to pursue a creative career. Since then, he has worked across theatre, TV, and film as both a performer and music producer. He recently released his debut album, Burning Midnight Oil, available on all streaming platforms.
What to Expect from the Show
Hall described the show as “surreal, dark, mysterious and extremely heartfelt.” He explained: “Don’t Know? Have a Go! is about a man who winds up on his favourite quiz show with no idea how he got there – and he is forced to answer questions about himself. As the show begins to unravel, the audience will begin to piece together who John is and why he must make it to the end of the quiz show.”
He added that fans of TV shows like Inside No. 9, Twin Peaks, or Severance would enjoy the performance. Running approximately 45–50 minutes, the show balances comedy and pathos.
Development and Inspiration
The show was developed during Hall’s time on the Scottish Youth Theatre’s Trajectories program. He said: “I came with a song that I had written looking to use its subject matter as the basis for a show, and out came Don’t Know? Have a Go!” This marks his fourth year at the Edinburgh Fringe and the first time he has produced his own work.
Background
Born in Alexandria, Hall lived in Bonhill until age 24. He attended the Vale Academy and left school with “no idea” what he wanted to do. He completed a five-year apprenticeship with BAE Systems, which he said he hated, but a stage production of Mamma Mia sparked his interest in performing. He joined Dumbarton People’s Theatre and performed with them for four years before studying acting at City of Glasgow College and later Edinburgh Napier University.
Tickets for Don’t Know? Have a Go! are priced £12 (£10 concessions) and can be booked by calling 0131 226 0000 or visiting www.edfringe.com.
