BBC Breakfast presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay delivered a touching update on the Princess of Wales just moments into the programme on Tuesday, June 30. Kate Middleton completed the National Three Peaks Challenge for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, raising funds and awareness for cancer patients.
Princess Kate's Inspiring Encounter
During the 23-mile hike across the highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales, Kate met a remarkable father and son pair. Jon Kay began by stating: "The Princess of Wales has been praised for completing the National Three Peak Challenge over the weekend to fundraise for the hospital where she was treated for cancer." He added: "Along the way, she met two very special people."
Sally Nugent interjected: "It was a father and son who were also climbing Ben Nevis." A video showed Pete Haslam carrying his paraplegic son, Ted, to the peak, where Kate offered words of encouragement. Ted, 11, was diagnosed with an aggressive spinal tumour at age three and was fundraising for children's charity Molly Olly's Wishes.
Anonymous Donation and Family Support
It later emerged that Kate made an undisclosed donation on Ted's Justgiving page under the pseudonym Catherine Wales. Her message read: "One of the real highlights of the Three Peaks Challenge was meeting inspiring individuals like you along the way. Huge congratulations to the entire team for raising money for such a wonderful cause. C."
Kate characterized the challenge as a chance to "explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back." Upon completing the challenge in Wales, she was greeted by family members including the Prince of Wales, her three children George, Charlotte, and Louis, her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother James.
