Countryfile presenter Anita Rani admitted to breaking a rule during Sunday's episode of the BBC show, forcing a guest to step in and carry her as the tide came in.
Oyster Reef Investigation
Rani visited West Mersea in Essex, where oysters have been harvested for over 2,000 years. She joined ecologist Tom Cameron from the University of Essex and researchers Lola and Kristina to study how non-native Atlantic rock oysters affect the local ecosystem and whether they could help coastal habitats respond to rising sea levels.
The group headed to Brightlingsea to examine a rock oyster reef. Rani was eager to learn but soon faced a problem when she realized the tide was rising and she lacked proper footwear.
Rule 101 Broken
In a panic, Rani asked, 'Someone keeping an eye on the tide, right?' She then admitted, 'Doesn’t help that I’ve broken Countryfile Rule 101 and forgotten my wellies.' As the water rose, she noted, 'That came in very quickly.' The camera showed her walking boots submerged as she said, 'Look at this. The tide is coming in very quickly and now we’re getting deeper.'
Guest to the Rescue
With the water too high, a male guest carried Rani on his back back to the boat. Laughing, she joked to the camera, 'I know. Demanding.'
Later in the episode, Rani explored the Countryfile archives highlighting people and projects shaping coastal life. The episode is available on BBC iPlayer.
