Daily Star's agony aunt Jane O'Gorman has tackled a reader's dilemma over a fiancée who wants to explore her sexuality, and another's frustration over a partner's renovation obsession.
Fiancée's Bisexuality Bombshell
A man wrote to Jane explaining his fiancée thinks she might be bisexual and wants to try having sex with women for a while. The couple are due to marry next June, but plans to send out 'keep the date' notices in January are now up in the air.
The fiancée says she can't 'live a lie' and has fallen for a woman she met online, wanting a sexual fling with her. She is begging him not to tell her family the truth and wants him to pretend he is the one asking for a break, coming up with a story about getting cold feet.
The wedding was first due to take place in 2022, but she put it off because she felt he was rushing her. When he tried to get the ball rolling again in 2024, she complained his plans for a registry office and pub lunch were cheap and nasty, craving a fancier do.
Pressure and Parents' Wills
She is putting pressure on him to do as she says, claiming her very traditional parents will write her out of their wills and cut her off without a penny if she doesn't toe the line. The man has met her parents hundreds of times and doesn't see them as the ogres she makes them out to be.
Jane suspects it all comes down to money, saying the girlfriend is so obsessed with ring-fencing her parents' assets that she needs him as her acceptable front. She advised him that if she isn't serious about becoming his wife, then she must set him free.
Jane told him not to allow this woman to treat him like a fool, and not to cover for her or give her an alibi in the face of her traditional parents. She said he should tell her today that he's tired of her games because he's better than this, and not prepared to waste the best years of his life hiding in the shadows.
Renovation Obsession
Another reader wrote about his girlfriend's obsession with renovating and decorating their house, as she drools over panelling and paint colours. She is now muttering about converting the garage into a flat, while he just wants to calm down and enjoy their home.
Jane advised discussing the future and being honest about needs and desires, suggesting long walks or taking up a new interest together. She said the girlfriend must realise there is life beyond renovations and must be more flexible and less DIY-obsessed if the relationship is to survive.
