Daily Mail's Award-Nominated Podcast Pipeline Launches Gripping YouTube Video Series
The Daily Mail's critically acclaimed podcast, Pipeline, which has been shortlisted for prestigious journalism awards, is now available to watch in a compelling video format on YouTube. This new visual adaptation brings the shocking true story of a devastating underwater tragedy to life with unprecedented intensity and detail.
The Tragic Paria Pipeline Disaster of February 2022
Pipeline recounts the harrowing events of February 25th, 2022, when five professional divers were undertaking what should have been the final day of repairs on a leaking undersea oil pipeline off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago. The divers, employed by a contractor working for Paria Fuel Trading Company—a subsidiary of Trinidad's state-owned oil corporation—were completing their work when catastrophe struck.
As they applied the finishing touches after weeks of labor, the divers were violently sucked into the very 30-inch diameter pipe they were repairing. They were dragged hundreds of feet beneath the sea in a horrifying incident that would claim four lives.
Sole Survivor's Agonizing Escape and Failed Rescue Efforts
One diver, Christopher Boodram, managed to claw his way back through the oil-filled pipe to safety during three agonizing hours of struggle. Upon emerging, he immediately begged Paria officials to launch a rescue mission for his four trapped colleagues: Kazim Ali Jr, Yusuf Henry, Fyzal Kurban, and Rishi Nagassar.
Despite Boodram's desperate pleas, no effective rescue operation was mounted. Tragically, the four men were left to perish in the pipeline. Subsequent autopsy reports revealed that one diver may have survived for up to 39 hours while trapped in the pipe, adding another layer of horror to the already devastating incident.
Investigative Journalism Uncovers Systemic Failures
Hosted by investigative reporter Isabelle Stanley, who also presented the original podcast series that topped charts in both the UK and United States, the YouTube video combines chilling narrative details with haunting audio recordings from a GoPro camera recovered from inside the pipeline.
The series features exclusive interviews with sole survivor Christopher Boodram and the devastated families of the victims, who have fought tirelessly for justice and accountability in the years since the tragedy. Stanley's thorough investigation uncovered how Paria officials actively blocked rescue attempts and revealed lucrative contracts and secretive political relationships at the highest levels of Trinidad's government at the time.
Critical Acclaim and Award Recognition
The Pipeline podcast has recently been shortlisted for two prestigious Press Awards: Investigation of the Year and News Podcast of the Year. This recognition underscores the quality and impact of the investigative journalism that has brought this tragic story to international attention.
The full video series is now available for viewing by subscribing to the Daily Mail's Crime Desk YouTube channel, offering audiences a powerful visual companion to the award-nominated audio investigation that continues to seek answers and accountability for one of the diving world's most tragic industrial disasters.
