A teacher has been banned from the profession after rewriting a pupil's coursework and submitting it to an exam board as the student's own work. Lauren Oliver, 35, tampered with the assignment while teaching health and social care at Oasis Academy Shirley Park in Croydon, south London, in November 2022.
The Teaching Regulation Agency panel heard that Oliver told the pupil the work was being sampled for moderation, then rewrote two tasks for unit 14 of the assessment. She signed documents confirming the work was the pupil's, knowing this was false. The pupil later received a temporarily better grade as a result.
Oliver, who had taught at the school since 2012 and served as a lead internal verifier, failed to notify the school of her actions. The pupil reported the misconduct to the principal in June 2023, five months after submission. Oliver resigned in October 2023 after admitting the allegations.
The panel found her behaviour dishonest, unethical, and lacking integrity, stating she had 'fundamentally breached the standard of conduct expected of a teacher' by exploiting her position of trust. Decision-maker Sarah Buxcey, acting for the Education Secretary, imposed an indefinite ban with a two-year review period.
