Students across Liverpool are celebrating after securing impressive A-level results. Pupils from schools, colleges and sixth forms across the city found out this morning whether their hard work had paid off.
Top performers at Blue Coat School
Among those celebrating was Charlotte Allen from the Blue Coat School in Wavertree, who secured four A* grades. She was part of the more than 60% of students at the school who achieved A-A* grades.
Charlotte said she was keeping her options open for the future. She said: “I am going to take some time to work out what my next step is. I have a university offer, but I might defer and go travelling or start working. The good thing is I have options, so I just want to make sure I take the right one.”
Isaac Roy, who secured three A* grades, was celebrating as he achieved the grades that will enable him to study Natural Sciences at university. He said: “I am absolutely delighted, this school has given me support, community and great friends. What I am looking forward to now though is going to try out some of those results day deals. I am heading straight out to Nando's and Frankie and Benny’s.”
Headteacher praises exceptional results
Headteacher Kevin Sexton added: “These are exceptional results and we are incredibly proud of our students. They have shown tremendous commitment and determination, supported by the outstanding dedication of our staff.”
Oliver Dadswell, who secured three A* grades in biology, chemistry and mathematics at St Margaret’s Church of England Sixth Form in Aigburth, was another of this year's success stories. He is going to study actuarial science with maths at the University of Manchester.
He said: “The teachers have been amazing and helped me through my journey here. Nothing has been too much trouble for them, and I’m delighted that my hard work has paid off.”
Progress across the city
At All Saints Sixth Form College in Garston, this year’s cohort are progressing to a wide range of destinations including university, apprenticeships and employment. Paige Jones, head of sixth form, said: “Today is all about recognising what our students have achieved and the journeys they are about to begin. We are incredibly proud of the commitment they have shown over the past two years and of the way they have supported one another along the way.”
Maggie Maguire will be heading to the University of Liverpool to study law after achieving A, A, B in art, criminology and English at Notre Dame Catholic Academy in Everton. She said: “I have loved my time at Notre Dame; it has been supportive and allowed me to achieve the grades necessary to get to my chosen university.”
Victoria Taylor, headteacher, added: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students and the excellent progress they have made. These results reflect their hard work, determination and commitment, as well as the dedication of our staff team and the support of families and carers. It is particularly pleasing to see improvement across all pathways, including A-level, applied general and technical qualifications.”
