Cardiff has again outperformed the all-Wales average for A-Level grades, according to results published on Thursday. WJEC data shows 35.4% of Cardiff's A-Level grades were awarded at A*-A, compared with 29.6% across Wales. Overall, 98.4% of entries achieved grades A*-E, also outperforming the Welsh average of 97.7%.
City-Wide Performance
The city council did not publish individual results for its schools. Publishing the overall results, the local education authority said that, whatever their results, students can get advice and opportunities on the What's Next platform.
Results for Wales published on Thursday morning show that grades are up again. More than one in 10 results achieved the top grade, and overall pass rates A*-E are also slightly up.
Student Success Stories
Among the successes is Fitzalan High student Barwaaqo Hassan, 18, from Butetown, who achieved As in media, sociology and politics and a B in English. She is set to go to Magdalene College, Cambridge, to study human social political sciences and wants to pursue a career in policy in either education or health.
Fitzalan High head Adam Lear said: "We are absolutely delighted with the achievements of our pupils, who have secured another outstanding set of results. These results reflect not only their hard work, determination and ambition, but also the incredible support and dedication of our staff, alongside the encouragement of parents, carers and community.
"We are proud that our pupils are now moving on to exciting and positive destinations, including some of the UK’s top universities such as Cambridge and Edinburgh, as well as a wide range of apprenticeships and other chosen pathways. Most importantly, every pupil has secured a destination that is right for them, and that is something we celebrate wholeheartedly.
"This is a moment of real pride for our whole school community, and we look forward to seeing all that our young people will go on to achieve in the future."

Cardiff council deputy leader Cllr Sarah Merry said: "Today is a significant achievement for our young people and I would like to congratulate every student receiving their results. Their determination, resilience and hard work have paid off, and it is particularly pleasing to see Cardiff once again outperforming the Welsh average, with strong results being recorded across the city.
"Whether students are progressing to university, further education, apprenticeships, training or employment, we wish them every success as they take the next step towards their future goals.
