Danish boycott app tops charts after Trump Greenland threats

An app designed to help consumers boycott American products has surged to the top of the App Store in Denmark, following US President Donald Trump’s renewed threats to take control of Greenland.

The NonUSA app allows users to scan a product’s barcode to see where it was made, with the aim of identifying and avoiding American-owned goods. Its description says it “helps you identify and avoid American products in everyday life” and offers Danish alternatives.

Currently available only on Apple’s App Store, an Android version is expected by Friday. Another boycott app, Made O’Meter, has also entered the top 10 in Denmark, with both apps proving popular in other Nordic countries including Norway, Sweden and Iceland.

The rise in downloads reflects a broader backlash against Trump’s administration, which claims the US needs to acquire Greenland from Denmark for national security reasons. Last week, Trump threatened new 10 per cent trade tariffs on countries that do not support his plans.

Trump said on Wednesday that a “framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland” had been reached after talks in Davos, but Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insisted that any negotiations must respect Denmark’s territorial integrity.
