Manchester United are expected to complete at least two pieces of business before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday, with Harry Amass and Chido Obi both left out of the under-21 squad that beat Leicester 4-1.
Adam Lawrence's side secured the win without the pair, who did not feature in the squad at all. Shea Lacey, who has impressed in the first team of late, scored twice, while JJ Gabriel and Amir Ibragimov also got on the scoresheet.
Amass and Obi set for moves
Amass, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City in the Championship, is understood to have seen Burnley fail to follow through on earlier interest. The 19-year-old defender is still expected to leave on loan before the deadline, although a permanent sale has not been ruled out, with Wolverhampton Wanderers also linked.
Obi, meanwhile, is looking for first-team experience. The 18-year-old made his United debut less than 12 months after joining from Arsenal's youth ranks. Last season, opportunities were harder to come by for the forward, who became United's youngest-ever Premier League starter against Brentford in 2025.
Lawrence explains Obi's development
Under-21 boss Lawrence has previously said that Obi's progress would dictate the club's plans for him this summer, and it appears they feel he would benefit from his first loan.
"It was a conscious decision at the start of the season [last season] for Chido to concentrate his development in the academy environment," Lawrence said earlier this year. "The club were right to do what they did in the window just gone, for Chido to stay in the building.
"Chido has a group of coaches who believe in his potential and are working hard to help him fulfil it. Obviously, the player must turn up every day hungry to improve.
"We're pushing Chido and challenging him. He has a great programme of games ahead of him and ultimately his level of progression and performance will dictate what happens in the summer."
Carrick open to more business
Speaking at the weekend, Michael Carrick suggested he would not rule out further transfer activity before the deadline. The former midfielder is happy with the additions of Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Karlow Darlow and Carlos Baleba so far.
"It's always difficult to say, to be honest, when there's so little time left," Carrick said. "I think the situation that we're in, I think the business that we've managed to do, I'm pleased with.
"I think we're a better group, a better squad, potentially a better team, you know. Adding Marcus [Rashford] into that feels like a new signing.
"So, in that respect, we're quite happy. We're always open to if there's something else to be able to add, so I wouldn't shut that down, but as it stands, we'll have to wait and see."
