Councillors have approved nine new projects to be carried out under North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Board Local Development Programme.
The programme acts on recommendations made by community boards to deliver a wide range of improvements for residents, with recent examples including the creation and upgrading of play areas, installation of lighting and CCTV cameras, and repairs to car parking areas.
Latest approved projects
The latest projects to be greenlit by the committee include £50,000 for a statue of Lisbon Lion John Clark at his birthplace in Chapelhall, £40,000 for a kick-about play area at Holehills in the Airdrie community board area and a £20,000 community garden in the village of Greengairs.
In Bellshill, £15,000 will be used to improve parking at Strathclyde Way, while in the Coatbridge community board area £10,000 will go towards a mural created by people from Ukraine who have resettled in the area.
Further investments
Additionally, £20,000 has been pledged to support a community garden project which was proposed by Kirkwood Tenants and Residents Association.
Two projects have been added to the list for Cumbernauld, these being notice boards in Condorrat costing £4,000 and repainting of the Maple Underpass, costed at £7,000.
The final projects in this batch are in the Northern Corridor area, with a £100,000 investment in creating a new play area in Moodiesburn and £15,000 to upgrade footpaths and install solar lighting in Stepps.
