World Cup Inspires England Squad Baby Names Trend
World Cup Inspires England Squad Baby Names

Parents are increasingly choosing baby names inspired by England football players, according to baby name expert SJ Strum. The World Cup is expected to fuel a surge in children named after squad members, as modern parents seek meaningful connections through their children's names.

Rising Stars in Baby Names

England right winger Bukayo Saka has already entered the baby name charts for the first time, with seven babies named after him. The Nigerian name Bukayo means 'adds to happiness'. Similarly, teammate Ezri Konsa has inspired 12 babies, with the name meaning 'my help' and fitting current naming trends.

Kobbie Mainoo's first name also made a new entry in the charts last year, while Ivan Toney's moniker is trending again. Tino Livramento's name rose over 1,700 spots in the UK in the previous year, and Strum expects continued growth.

Out of Fashion Names

Not all England squad names are popular, however. Strum notes that names like Dean, John, and Anthony are currently out of style, as parents prefer unique options.

WAGs Influence

Footballers' partners also inspire baby names. Jordan Pickford's children Arlo, Ostara, and Misty are seen as trendsetters, while Ollie Watkins' children Amara May and Marley have generated many namesakes. Strum highlights Naima, wife of Eberchi Eze, and Tolami, fiancée of Bukayo Saka, as potential iconic picks.

International Players

Players from other nations may also influence baby names. Lisandro Martinez's name is romantic and trendy, Raul Jimenez means 'wolf', and Weston McKennie's surname-as-first-name style is gaining popularity.

Strum advises parents to choose names they love beyond the World Cup excitement, ensuring the name fits the child and surname. Quirky picks like Lanesra (Arsenal backwards) are fun but should be considered carefully.
