Proposal Plans Halted by Girlfriend's 'Spoilt' Attitude

A man considering proposing to his girlfriend of three years has been advised to hold off until she matures. The 29-year-old wrote to agony aunt Coleen Nolan, explaining that while he loves his partner, her 'attitude stinks' and she often acts 'spoilt'.

Free Upgrade Not Good Enough

He described a recent weekend away where the couple was offered a free upgrade to a rooftop suite with a private hot tub. Despite the luxury, his girlfriend complained the bathroom was too small and sulked for the entire stay.

'Anyone else would have been made up with a suite of rooms that included a rooftop deck with a private hot tub, but not her,' he wrote. 'Her glass is always half empty and it's draining.'

Coleen's Advice: Don't Propose Yet

In her response, Nolan advised against getting engaged while he feels this way. 'If you're feeling all these things, then don't get engaged! Propose when you are sure and the timing feels right,' she said.

She suggested calling out her behaviour if she acts like a 'petulant child', as honest communication is key in an equal partnership. However, she noted that people can only change themselves, though his optimism might influence her.

Take Time to Grow Together

Nolan emphasised that they are both still young and have time to share more experiences. 'You don't need an engagement ring or a wedding right now,' she wrote, adding that a wedding certificate won't make existing doubts disappear.

She concluded: 'Before you go into marriage, it’s so important to confront any issues or doubts, so you can walk down that aisle feeling truly happy.'
