London will swelter in heatwave temperatures above 30C next week, according to a new weather forecast by WX Charts. The hot weather is predicted to reach its peak on Wednesday, July 29, with UK temperatures rising as high as 35C.

Heatwave History

This would be the fourth heatwave in London this year. Previous heatwaves include a record-breaking May temperature of 35.1C recorded in Kew Gardens, a June heatwave that saw 36C in the capital, and a third that lasted 13 days in July.

Health Alerts Issued

Yellow heat health alerts have been issued for London, the South East, East Midlands, East of England, South West, and West Midlands. Officials warned that temperatures were likely to impact health and wellbeing.

Water Restrictions and Drought

A hosepipe ban continues in London, affecting 10 million Thames Water customers across the South East. Drought has been declared in North Wales and the Upper Severn following record dry conditions, heatwaves, wildfires, and dwindling rivers. This is the first part of the UK to declare drought status this summer.

Many parts of England are in prolonged dry weather status, with the country receiving just 3% of its average July rainfall. Hosepipe bans are in place for 23 million customers, and suppliers warn they may stay in place all summer.

Wildfires and Travel

Wildfires have been raging in several places in England, while Scotland has experienced a major wildfire in the Cairngorms. In the Republic of Ireland, a nationwide hosepipe ban is in response to dry conditions.

On Sunday, temperatures are expected to turn fresher across much of the UK, with rain possible in some areas. The heat alerts were in place at the start of a period when millions of motorists are expected to take to the roads for summer getaways.
