A father has been barred from every JD Wetherspoon pub across the UK following a violent drunken assault on staff members. The shocking incident, which left employees traumatised, has resulted in a five-year ban for the aggressive patron.
The 41-year-old man, whose name has not been disclosed, launched an unprovoked attack at a Wetherspoon's branch in Weston-super-Mare. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as the intoxicated dad became increasingly aggressive before physically assaulting multiple staff members.
Court Implements Strict Ban
North Somerset Magistrates' Court handed down the unprecedented prohibition order after hearing disturbing details of the assault. The ruling means the violent dad cannot enter any of the 800+ Wetherspoon establishments nationwide until 2029.
Presiding magistrate Sarah Jenkins stated: "This was a completely unacceptable display of violence towards hardworking hospitality staff. The five-year ban reflects the severity of the offence and should serve as a warning to others."
Shocking Details Emerge
Court documents revealed:
- The attack occurred during peak evening hours
- Multiple staff members required medical attention
- The defendant showed no remorse during police interviews
- This wasn't his first alcohol-related offence
A Wetherspoon spokesperson commented: "We fully support the court's decision. Our staff deserve to work in a safe environment without fear of violence from customers."
Rising Hospitality Violence
The case highlights growing concerns about violence against pub and restaurant workers. Industry reports show:
- 72% increase in reported assaults since 2019
- 1 in 3 hospitality workers experience verbal abuse weekly
- Only 14% of violent incidents result in prosecution
Police have warned that similar bans could become more common as authorities crack down on pub-related violence.
