A 19-year-old was caught on video running through Birmingham city centre with a machete as revellers laughed and filmed the incident on their phones.

Footage shows machete chase on Broad Street

Police were summoned to Birmingham's Broad Street entertainment complex after the lout was seen waving the weapon near the renowned Black Sabbath Bridge.

Mobile phone footage shows the teenager sprinting across the street as bystanders yell: "He's got a machete, what the f**k." He is then seen picking up an object from the ground before dashing back past several bars along one of the city's busiest thoroughfares.

Onlookers laugh as police pursue suspect

Incredibly, laughter can be heard from onlookers before another person exclaims "Oi, there's some feds there" as police drive by. Others are heard shouting "he's got a knife, he's got a knife" as two officers start pursuing the suspect on foot.

Raid Alamansuly, 19, was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a bladed article and possession of class B drugs.

Suspect pleads guilty, awaits sentencing

He pleaded guilty to both charges and was held in custody pending his sentencing on September 2. The footage, obtained by the Birmz Is Grime news blog, has been viewed thousands of times since being posted on social media.

One internet user remarked: "why are people laughing and smiling! third world behaviour! !" A second commented: "Broad street has become wild." Another added: "My beautiful city has changed so much over the years." One stated: "Brum city its like the wild west what a sorry state from my hey day".

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "A 19-year-old man has been charged following reports of a man waving a metal object in Birmingham city centre on 9 August. We were called to Broad Street just after midnight. Raid Alamansuly of no fixed address, has been charged with possession of a bladed article and possession of class B drugs. He was remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on 10 Aug. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was held in custody pending his sentencing on September 2."
