A motorist in Rochdale was assaulted after an unknown substance was thrown into his face while he was stopped at a traffic light on King Street South. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 23, and emergency services were called to the victim's home later that day.

Victim's Eyes Irritated by Liquid

The male victim reported that his eyes became irritated after the liquid entered them. Firefighters and police officers conducted checks on him and his clothing. Tests concluded that the substance was 'non-corrosive and non-chemical,' according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Incident Recorded as Section 39 Assault

A GMP spokesperson stated: 'Officers received reports that hours earlier the informant (a man) has been at the traffic lights with his window down. A man in another vehicle has thrown an unknown substance at him which has gone in his eyes. When the informant has got home his eyes felt irritated and called the police.'

'Due to the nature of the report GMP and Fire carried out thorough checks of the victim and his clothing. All tests came back as non-corrosive and non-chemical. The crime was recorded as a section 39 assault – no suspect was identified and the crime has now been closed.'

Despite the investigation, no suspect has been identified, and the case has been closed. The assault is classified under section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, which covers common assault.
