Sky has unveiled two new smart home plans that offer internet-connected cameras and cloud recordings from just £5 a month, positioning itself as a budget-friendly rival to Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest systems. The plans include full HD video recording, instant alerts, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud storage.
The first plan, priced at £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, includes a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime. For those wanting more coverage, the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ costs £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee, adding an indoor camera and extra app features like scheduled arming.
Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, said: 'Sky Smart Home is about making high-quality smart tech more accessible. We’ve taken the features customers value most and made them easy to use, simple to manage and affordable.'
The new plans mark a shift for Sky, which previously offered home security mainly through its Protect Smart Home Insurance bundle. Now, customers can purchase Sky Smart Home products as standalone services for the first time.
For comparison, Amazon sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, with a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month for cloud recording. Sky claims its plans could save customers over £100 compared to a Ring system.
