Ring Doorbell Captures Killer's Final Words Before Murder

Ring doorbell footage captured a killer's chilling final words to his girlfriend moments before he brutally murdered her. The video shows Charlie James Jeans, 31, and Samantha Murphy arriving at her home in Portsmouth, Hampshire, late on June 4 last year.

Footage Reveals Final Moments

The footage, shown in court, captures Jeans swearing at Samantha as they enter the property around 11:45 pm. A neighbor reported hearing a loud voice shouting "I'm going to kill you" followed by a woman's screams shortly after. At approximately 12:20 am, Jeans sent a text message to his mother stating, "I'm going to prison for a very long time I love you."

Killer's Escape and Arrest

Jeans was seen leaving the address on the doorbell camera at 1:40 am. He then went into hiding for four days before being located and arrested by police. Initially pleading not guilty to murder, he changed his plea to guilty five days into his trial at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday, June 15.

Sentence and Family Reaction

On Wednesday, June 17, Jeans, of Margate Road in Southsea, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 17 years. Speaking outside court, Samantha's family said they had "secured justice" for her. They described her as a "kind and loving daughter, sister, and mother" with a "contagious laugh" who was a "fiercely devoted mother to her three young children."

The family added: "From the beginning, we were determined to see justice done. Reaching this milestone allows us to focus entirely on celebrating Sam's life, and we will never allow the light she brought to us all to be forgotten."

Police Statement

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Jody Beresford said: "Samantha's life was cut cruelly short by a man who she should have been able to trust and rely on. Jeans betrayed her in a way that most people cannot even imagine. In one selfish, violent act, he has robbed Samantha of her future and her family and friends of their loved one."

He thanked the investigation team and Samantha's family for their support, noting that their assistance was invaluable in securing the result. The National Domestic Abuse Helpline is available at 0808 2000 247 for those experiencing domestic abuse.
